Time may be running out for online DOT courses

One of the requirements for obtaining a full license following an OWI offense is completion of an Iowa DOT-approved drinking drivers course. Many times a 48-hour hotel weekend course is required through court proceedings, but other cases may only require a 12-hour course.

During the pandemic, our governor signed a waiver which has allowed the Iowa DOT to accept an online version of the 12-hour courses. Of course, an online version of the course is much more convenient to the driver.

As of mid-June, there has been no update as to when this waiver might end. But with the changes the state has been making in opening back up, it would be good idea for anyone that needs to take this course to complete it soon.
